A Cape Cod Thanksgiving usually means more people in the house than at any other point outside summer: grown children home for the long weekend, in-laws in the guest room, and a kitchen running from early morning until the pie plates are cleared. A Thanksgiving cleaning service on Cape Cod is about making that one busy week easy. Sentinel Cleaning Company, based in Hyannis since 2008, handles pre-holiday and post-holiday cleaning from Falmouth to Provincetown, and this is how we plan it.

Kitchen deep cleaned before Thanksgiving in a Cape Cod home by Sentinel Cleaning Company

What is a pre-Thanksgiving cleaning?

A pre-Thanksgiving cleaning is a detailed house clean scheduled in the days before the holiday so the kitchen, bathrooms, guest rooms and entry are ready for company. It focuses on the rooms guests actually use and on the kitchen, which has to be clean before cooking starts, not after.

It is not the same as a routine weekly visit. The priorities shift: the oven interior matters because it will run for six hours, the refrigerator needs to be cleared to make room, and the guest bathroom has to hold up to a full house for four days.

When should you book a Thanksgiving cleaning in 2026?

Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26. Book two to four weeks ahead. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week are the most requested cleaning days of the entire fall, and they are the first to fill.

Why does the kitchen come first before Thanksgiving?

The kitchen is where Thanksgiving happens, so it needs to be clean and cleared before cooking begins. That means the inside of the oven, the stovetop and range hood filter, the microwave, and a refrigerator emptied of old leftovers and wiped down so the turkey and the side dishes have room.

  1. Clean the oven interior and racks. A dirty oven smokes at high heat, and Thanksgiving is the one day it runs at 425 degrees for hours.
  2. Degrease the stovetop, burner grates and range hood filter.
  3. Clear the refrigerator, throw out anything expired and wipe every shelf and drawer.
  4. Empty and wipe the counters completely so you start with maximum workspace.
  5. Run the dishwasher empty with a cleaning cycle and clear the filter.
  6. Wipe cabinet fronts and handles, especially the ones above and beside the stove.
  7. Wash the kitchen floor last.
Tip from our crews: do the oven one week early, not the day before. Oven cleaning leaves a residue smell until the oven has been run once, and you want that to happen before the turkey goes in.

What do guest rooms and bathrooms need?

Guest rooms need dusting, fresh bedding, vacuumed floors and cleared closet space. Guest bathrooms need a full scrub of the toilet, tub or shower, sink and mirror, plus fresh towels and a stocked supply of toilet paper and soap for four days of heavy use.

Guest bedrooms

Dust every surface including headboards and lamp shades, wash or change bedding, vacuum under the bed and clear some closet space and a few hangers.

Guest bathrooms

Scrub the shower and grout line, descale the fixtures, clean the mirror and wash the floor. Leave extra towels and a spare roll where guests can find them.

Dining room

Dust the table, chairs, sideboard and light fixture. Wipe the chair legs and vacuum under the table, which is where crumbs from last year's holiday are still hiding.

Entry and mudroom

November on Cape Cod means wet leaves and sand on every shoe. Clear the entry, wash the mat and make room for coats and boots.

What does a realistic Thanksgiving week schedule look like?

Most hosts on Cape Cod get the best result from two visits: a deeper clean one to two weeks before the holiday, then a lighter touch-up on Monday or Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. If you only book one visit, make it Tuesday, and ask for the kitchen and guest bathroom to be the priority.

If your home has not had a full deep cleaning since the summer season ended, that first visit is the one that makes the difference. Baseboards, cabinet interiors and grout do not get done in a two hour touch-up. For recurring clients on our residential cleaning schedule, a single extended visit early in the week is usually enough.

What if your Cape Cod house has been closed since the fall?

Many families open a seasonal home just for Thanksgiving. A house that has been closed for four to eight weeks needs an opening clean: air it out, wipe down surfaces where dust has settled, clean the kitchen and bathrooms, run water through every tap and the dishwasher, and make up the beds before anyone arrives.

We regularly handle these for owners who are driving down from Boston or flying in the night before. You do not need to be on Cape Cod. We coordinate access with you or your property manager and send confirmation when the house is ready. If you closed the house properly this fall, following our guide to closing a Cape Cod vacation home, the opening clean is quick.

What happens after the holiday?

A post-Thanksgiving clean resets the kitchen, washes floors, cleans bathrooms after four days of heavy use and turns over guest rooms. Booking it for Friday or Saturday means you get the long weekend back instead of spending it scrubbing roasting pans.

If you are hosting again for Christmas, see our holiday cleaning checklist for Cape Cod homes and plan both holidays at once. Pricing depends on the size of the home, bathroom count and whether it is a deep clean or a touch-up; our pricing page explains the ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book a pre-Thanksgiving cleaning on Cape Cod?

Book two to four weeks ahead. Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26, and the Monday through Wednesday before it are the most requested days of the fall. Booking in October gives you the widest choice of dates.

What does a pre-Thanksgiving house cleaning include?

Kitchen surfaces and appliance exteriors, inside the oven and microwave, the refrigerator cleared and wiped, guest bathrooms scrubbed, guest rooms dusted with fresh bedding, floors vacuumed and washed, and entry areas cleared. A deep clean adds baseboards, inside cabinets and detailed grout work.

Should I schedule a deep clean or a regular clean before Thanksgiving?

If the house has not had a deep clean since summer, schedule the deep clean one to two weeks before the holiday and a lighter touch-up clean on Tuesday or Wednesday. If you already have recurring service, a single extended visit early in the week is usually enough.

Do you clean after Thanksgiving too?

Yes. Post-holiday cleaning on Friday or the weekend after Thanksgiving covers the kitchen reset, floors, bathrooms and guest room turnover. Many hosts book the before and after visits together.

Do you clean Cape Cod homes that are only opened for the holiday?

Yes. Seasonal owners who open the house for Thanksgiving week can book an opening clean that airs out the home, wipes down surfaces that sat for weeks, runs the dishwasher empty and makes up the beds before the family arrives.

Thanksgiving week fills fast. Call Sentinel Cleaning Company, 7am to 9pm, seven days a week, and lock in your date before November.
